Big Data LDN was superb today! Most inspiring for us, “Turning Business Leaders into Data Advocates”, a panel hosted by Tiffany Manteaw (Lloyds Banking Group), discussing leadership buy-in and how to share a data culture across your business. Made possible by Women in Data® 👏
Thanks for sharing great thoughts and experience Cali Wood (AXA), Claire Reynolds (QBE Insurance), and especially to Carley Eaton (Vanquis Bank) for fielding my question on UK regional diversity and how to spread a data culture (and opportunities) beyond the traditional hub of South-East England.
Some take outs:
👉 Positive change happens when a clear data strategy is aligned to business goals, is easy to understand, and supported by business leaders.
👉 Seniors may be analogue leaders in a digital world. Always speak the language of business.
👉 Data needs to be accessible, and successes shared.
👉 Take the time (Rome wasn't built in a day).
👉 This is a new generation with new expectations. Quirky code parameters don’t cut it anymore. Search and analysis need to be conversational.
👉 Beware of Big-Shiny-itus! The next big thing may not be the best fit.
👉 Connect with regional universities and organisations. Think differently and take a chance. There is talent beyond measure outside of London.
